Co., Inc. was founded in 1960 as a supplier of equipment to the small to mid-sized commercial asphalt paving Industry.  LAYTON developed many innovative products that revolutionized the Paving industry in the 1960’s.  Products have included a line of Tow-Type Asphalt Pavers, Self Propelled Pavers, Asphalt Rollers, and a hydraulically operated hitch used to couple large finisher asphalt pavers to the trucks transporting the asphalt.  These products make extensive use of hydraulic and electrical components.  Many products have incorporated hydrostatic controls.  By the mid 1990’s LAYTON began a diversification process, through acquisitions, that led to a company with diverse manufacturing capabilities and a broad product base.

LAYTON Acquisitions:

Remote-Controlled Crawler tractor used to install manufactured Homes. Utilizes a 65 hp diesel engine and hydrostatic drive. This product is sold throughout the United States.

AISC Certified Structural Steel Fabricator. Stevens is one of the premier Structural Steel fabricators in the Northwest.

These Acquisitions have allowed LAYTON to transition from a manufacturer of discrete products for the asphalt paving industry to a diverse designer and manufacturer with a mix of proprietary products and “custom designed to order systems” for a varied range of industries.  In addition, Stevens Equipment is one of the Northwest’s leading suppliers of Structural Steel, having successfully completed projects up to 2,900 tons.

Today Layton has about 90 employees working at two locations. The Stevens Equipment facility is approximately 45,000 SF, and the LAYTON facility is about 24,000 SF.  Capabilities include full steel processing capability (Plasma cutting, Shear, CNC Punch, Saw, Press Brakes) and a Machine Shop with CNC and manual machines.  Layton has experienced fabrication skills in both stainless and mild steel.  Machine assembly is a large part of Layton’s business including Electrical, Mechanical, and Hydraulic capabilities.  Assembly machinery includes a Wheelabrator, Sand Blast Booth, Glass Bead Blast Both, and Paint Booth for high quality finish control.
